Sunday afternoon Stephanie and I decided to visit Lambeth Cemetery in Tooting, opened in 1854, few of the original Victorian monuments survive, due to a "lawn conversion" carried out between 1969 and 1991, which removed all but the most interesting Victorian graves, freeing up new space for burials. It was still quite interesting and beautiful to see. Two chapels occupy the cemetery, identical and across from one another only separated by a few meters, though only one is in use and the other has been fenced off, apparently because of misuse and neglect. We had to cut our time short at the cemetery because of a downpour, which unfortunately we got caught up in, we were soaked.
