Kensington Palace and Gardens

For my birthday, the 2nd of November, we went to Kensington Palace and Gardens. It was extremely cold and even a bit rainy, but nothing a good cup of coffee didn’t fix. I had a wonderful time, Kesington is absolutely beautiful, autumn made it even more beautiful.

Fireworks and Fair Bishop’s Park

On Friday, we went to Bishop’s Park, where they had a fair and Firework show, it was an early celebration for Guy Fawkes day. The park held 2 firework shows, first one for kids and later the evening they had another one for the adults – the fireworks were set to go off on superhero music. It was absolutely AMAZING! I had such a lovely time, afterwards Sam, Sarah and I went out for a few beers at a pub called The Golden Lion in Fulham, where we celebrated the beginning of my birthday which was on Saturday.

Pumpkin Picking in Crockford Bridge

Yesterday Stephanie, Riley, Wayne and I went to Crockford Bridge Farm, to pick out a few pumpkins for Halloween. Riley enjoyed it so much, he even tasted a few of the pumpkins!! It was a really windy day, but I still had so much fun, I like the fact that Halloween is sort of a big deal in London (or starting to become a big deal), Halloween in South Africa isn’t really celebrated, shops aren’t even decorated for Halloween in SA. I had tons of photos from today, and found it extremely hard to choose a few for my post, so there might be a quite a lot.

Lambeth Cemetery

Sunday afternoon Stephanie and I decided to visit Lambeth Cemetery in Tooting, opened in 1854, few of the original Victorian monuments survive, due to a "lawn conversion" carried out between 1969 and 1991, which removed all but the most interesting Victorian graves, freeing up new space for burials. It was still quite interesting and beautiful to see. Two chapels occupy the cemetery, identical and across from one another only separated by a few meters, though only one is in use and the other has been fenced off, apparently because of misuse and neglect. We had to cut our time short at the cemetery because of a downpour, which unfortunately we got caught up in, we were soaked.

Streatham Cemetery

On Friday I finally got around to visit Streatham Cemetery with Stephanie, I’ve been meaning to go there for quite a while. Every time we drove past it on our way to Wandsworth, Putney or Wimbledon,  I would make a little mental note of putting the cemetery on my “things to do in London” list. With two lodges and two mirror image chapels built in the Gothic style, Streatham Cemetery opened for burials in 1894. The cemetery is now mostly closed to new burials.

Streatham Cemetery is bigger than I expected, we didn’t even cover half of the cemetery on our visit, I hope to go back before I leave London.

Weekend

This weekend I went to visit my parents in Groblersdal… again. :) On Saturday my friends and I went to a lodge between Groblersdal and Marble Hall, which is about 30 min from each other. I had such a great time with them, and we even gave the fishies some food, it was  more like we gave the ducks food, they actually attacked the fishes to get to their food, so weird. Here’s some photos of my friends and I at Kingdoms Lodge.
