Heroes Acre Cemetery

Kind of depressing starting a post this week with the word “cemetery” in the heading right? In case you haven’t noticed, we had a bit of trouble with internet the last couple of day, but it’s much better now, and I didn’t even get the chance to do my Monday post, but I’ll make it up to you with these photos I took about a year ago, and only now got around to it to develop my films, I also have 2 other films I developed with this one, so I’ll share them later on.
F1000001Here’s some background on the cemetery: Heroes Acre Cemetery is located in Pretoria on one of the world's longest streets, Church Street, Heroes Acre is one of the city's most fascinating attractions. The cemetery was established in 1867 and the burial place of a number of historical figures including Andries Pretorius, Paul Kruger and Hendrik Verwoerd. Also among them Harry ‘Breaker’ Morant,  an Australian, executed for the murder of a missionary during the Second Anglo-Boer War. Surrounded by beautiful Jacaranda trees, the cemetery is open to the public daily.

I was fascinated with the historical figures buried there, the gorgeous trees as well as the magnificent statues & headstones in the amazing cemetery! It’s a place I can’t wait to visit again (although in a very dodgy area, since the centre of the city is not at all a safe place anymore), I’ll have to try going there again soon!
